The Dell PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack-mount server built for data-centre workloads that demand high core counts and large memory capacity. It ships with two Intel Xeon Silver 4214 processors running at 2.2GHz, delivering 24 cores total. The system includes 256GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory and a PERC H730P RAID controller. No drives are installed, so storage can be tailored to the deployment.

Eight 3.5-inch Bays and Dual 750W Supplies

The chassis provides eight hot-plug 3.5-inch drive bays that accept SATA drives and connect to the integrated PERC H730P controller for hardware RAID. Two 750W power supplies deliver redundancy for continuous operation. A 10GbE dual-port 562T adapter handles network connectivity, while iDRAC9 Enterprise enables remote management. Rail kits are available separately for rack installation.

Redundant Cooling and Efficient Power Draw

Dual redundant power supplies and hot-plug fans maintain stable thermals under typical enterprise loads. The 750W units share load to reduce stress on each module, keeping fan speeds moderate and acoustic output low in a rack environment.
