The Dell PowerEdge R930 is a 4U rack server populated with four Intel Xeon E7-8890 v4 processors, each running at 2.2 GHz with 24 cores. This configuration delivers 96 cores in a single chassis for organisations running mission-critical databases, large-scale virtualisation or in-memory analytics. The system ships with 1.5 TB of DDR4 2400 MHz registered ECC memory installed across 48 DIMM slots, leaving 48 slots open for future expansion up to the platform maximum of 12 TB.

24-bay storage and quad 1100 W power

Twenty-four 2.5-inch drive bays are filled with 960 GB SATA SSDs managed by a Dell PERC H330 controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 and 50. Network connectivity comes from an Intel X520/I350 daughter card providing two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports. Remote administration is handled by iDRAC 8 Enterprise. Four hot-plug 1100 W 80+ Platinum power supplies deliver redundant power, and ready rails with a front bezel are included for immediate rack installation.

Replaces multi-node clusters for memory-bound

This server consolidates workloads that previously required several two-socket nodes, especially when total memory footprint exceeds what a dual-processor platform can address. The jump is worth it when licensing, rack space or interconnect latency make a single 96-core, 12 TB-capable system more efficient than a distributed alternative. Buyers who need GPU acceleration or NVMe boot drives should look elsewhere, as the onboard Matrox G200 provides only basic video and the current configuration uses SATA SSDs.
