The Dell PowerEdge R940 is a 3U rack server equipped with four Intel Xeon Gold 6148 processors, each running at 2.40 GHz with 20 cores. It ships with 64 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory and eight 400 GB SATA solid-state drives managed by a PERC H730P controller. The system includes quad-port networking with two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports, iDRAC 9 Enterprise remote management, dual 1600 W platinum power supplies, rails and a front bezel.

48 DIMM slots supporting 6 TB maximum memory

The server provides 48 DDR4 memory slots and currently has 64 GB installed across four 16 GB modules. Maximum supported capacity reaches 6 TB, allowing substantial expansion for memory-intensive workloads such as in-memory databases or large virtualisation clusters. The registered ECC modules ensure data integrity at scale.

3U rack form factor with redundant power

The chassis occupies 3U of rack space and includes eight 2.5-inch hot-swap drive bays, all populated with the supplied SSDs. Dual redundant 1600 W power supplies and the PERC H730P RAID controller with battery-backed cache are pre-installed. iDRAC 9 Enterprise enables out-of-band management without requiring an operating system or agent software.
