Tower server for business workloads

The Dell PowerEdge T340 is a new tower server built around an Intel Xeon E-2124 quad-core processor running at 3.3 GHz with a 4.3 GHz turbo frequency. It ships with 32 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz memory in a two-module configuration and includes Microsoft Windows Server 2019 Standard with five CALs pre-installed. This system targets small businesses needing an on-premise platform for file, print and application services.

Chassis integration and expansion

The 3.5-inch hot-plug drive bays hold four 3 TB SATA hard drives operating at 7.2K rpm, managed by a Dell PERC RAID controller. Remote administration is handled by the integrated iDRAC9 Express card, while network connectivity uses dual onboard 1 Gb Broadcom 5720 ports. A single cabled power supply and a DVD-ROM drive complete the baseline configuration, leaving PCIe slots available for additional controllers or networking cards.

Storage capacity and processing headroom

The 12 TB RAID array provides redundant bulk storage for shared folders, databases and backup targets. The Xeon E-2124 delivers four cores and four threads, suitable for lightweight virtualisation and line-of-business applications. Workloads demanding higher core counts, faster storage tiers or redundant power supplies will exceed the capabilities of this configuration.
