SAS 6Gb/s interface ceiling

The 6Gb/s SAS link caps maximum transfer rate at the interface level, so sustained performance cannot exceed that bandwidth. Mechanical latency at 7200RPM adds rotational delay that becomes the bottleneck for random I/O patterns. The 128MB buffer absorbs bursts but does not overcome the physical limits of the platter. Workloads needing consistent low latency will hit this ceiling.

Upgrade from smaller nearline SAS drives

This 3TB model replaces 1TB or 2TB nearline SAS units when capacity per bay must grow without adding enclosures. The jump is worth it when the server backplane and controller already support 6Gb/s SAS and the caddy format matches.
