The DELL ST8000NM0185 is an 8TB 3.5" SAS internal hard drive spinning at 7.2K RPM with a 12Gb/s interface and 512MB buffer. It ships new with a Gen13 caddy for direct installation in compatible Dell PowerEdge and PowerVault systems.

Capacity and headroom

Eight terabytes provide ample space for bulk storage, archival workloads and nearline databases on supported 13G servers. The 7200RPL spindle and 12Gb/s SAS link deliver sustained throughput for sequential reads, while random I/O heavy workloads will saturate the mechanical latency limits.

Build integration

The drive requires a 3.5" SAS backplane and the supplied Gen13 caddy to fit Dell T130, T330, T440, T630, T640, R230, R330, R430, R530, R630, R730, R730xd, R830, R930, MD1200, MD1220, ME4012 or ME4024 chassis. It frees 2.5" bays for other devices and draws standard SAS power from the backplane.
