Dual-Port 10G Copper Adapter
The Intel X540-T2 adds two RJ-45 10GBase-T ports to a server or workstation through a PCIe slot. It targets administrators who need 10 Gbps links over existing Cat6 or Cat6a copper runs without moving to fibre. The card is supplied new and includes both low-profile and full-height brackets for flexible chassis fit.
10 Gbps Throughput and Headroom
Each port negotiates 10, 100, 1000 or 10 000 Mbps under the 802.3an standard, so mixed-speed networks are handled automatically. Bandwidth saturates at 10 Gbps per port; workloads that exceed that aggregate — such as multi-stream 4K storage replication or dense virtualisation clusters — will hit the port ceiling and require link aggregation or faster interfaces.
PCIe Interface and Driver Limits
The adapter connects via a PCIe interface and relies on the Intel ixgbe driver stack for Windows 7 through 11, Windows Server 2008 through 2022, Linux and VMware ESXi. Systems lacking PCIe slots or running unsupported operating systems cannot use the card, and the copper PHY limits reach to 100 metres on qualified cabling.

Domande su questo articolo
Will the 10GBASE-T ports on the X540-T2 negotiate down to 1 Gbps for my existing Cat5e switch?
Yes, the adapter supports IEEE 802.3ab for 1000BASE-T so it will link at 1 Gbps over Cat5e when the partner device does not support 10 Gbps.
How can I confirm both 10G ports are active after installing the card in a Windows Server 2022 machine?
Open Device Manager, locate the Intel X540-T2 under Network adapters, and verify both ports show as enabled with link speed reading 10 Gbps or the negotiated speed.
Does the retail box include both low-profile and full-height brackets for the X540-T2?
The package contents list the adapter with low-profile and high-profile brackets included.
