IOGEAR
USB 2.0 smart card reader with one slot, FIPS 201 compliant and CAC compatible for secure logins
The IOGEAR GSR202 is a USB 2.0 external smart card reader with a single slot. It reads ISO7816 Class A, B and C cards at 5V, 3V and 1.8V and meets FIPS 201 and EMV 2000 Level 1 requirements. It is built for government, banking, healthcare and secure network login scenarios where CAC or PIV cards are used daily.
Plug the reader into any USB 2.0 port; no external power supply is needed. Windows, macOS and Linux typically recognise the device as a standard CCID reader, so middleware such as ActivClient or OpenSC handles the card without extra drivers. The only common snag is that some older middleware expects a proprietary driver — check your software vendor’s compatibility list before assuming it will work out of the box.
Confirm that your smart cards are ISO7816 contact-type operating at 5V, 3V or 1.8V; memory cards such as SD, CompactFlash or Memory Stick are not supported. Verify that the host system has a free USB 2.0 port and that your middleware or operating system supports CCID over USB. The unit measures 3.06 by 0.625 by 2.625 inches, so ensure desk space is adequate for the cable and card insertion.
