The Samsung 870 EVO is a 2.5 inch internal solid state drive with 8TB of capacity. It connects through a SATA III interface and uses V-NAND technology with a 4GB Low Power DDR4 cache. Sequential reads reach up to 560 MBps and writes up to 530 MBps. The drive is rated for 1,500,000 hours MTBF and 4,800 TBW.
Moving to this 8TB model makes sense when a lower capacity SATA SSD no longer holds the working set or media library. The larger variable buffer helps sustain write performance during long transfers. Compatibility testing covers major chipsets, motherboards, NAS units and video recording devices. Encryption support includes AES 256 with TCG Opal 2.0 and IEEE1667.
