Desktop USB 3.2 Gen 2 expansion

This PCIe x1 add-in card adds eight USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports to a desktop system, split evenly between four Type-A and four Type-C connectors. It is aimed at builders and upgraders who need more high-speed USB connections for peripherals such as external drives, cameras, controllers or VR headsets. The card fits a single PCI Express x1 slot and works with Windows 7 through 11, macOS 10.8 and later, and Linux.

Bandwidth layout and port protection

Two independent 10 Gbps lanes each serve four ports, so one Type-C and three Type-A ports share the first 10 Gbps while the remaining four ports share the second 10 Gbps lane. Every port is individually fused with over-current and short-circuit protection, and the card draws its power directly from the PCIe slot without an external connector. A driver CD and mounting screws are included for systems that still require manual driver installation.

Data-only interface limits

The card handles data transfer only; it does not support USB Power Delivery fast charging, DisplayPort or HDMI video output, or the Thunderbolt protocol. Actual throughput per port reaches 10 Gbps only when that port is the sole active device on its lane, and real-world speed is always bounded by the connected device’s own capabilities. Windows XP, Vista, 7 and Server editions need the supplied driver, while Windows 10, 11, macOS and Linux operate driver-free.
