Industrial Rugged Switch

The Cisco Catalyst IE3105 is a fanless managed switch built for extreme environments. It operates reliably from -40°C to 75°C with an IP30 rated housing. Designed for industrial automation, transport and substation applications, it mounts on a standard DIN-Rail. The Network Essentials license provides foundational Layer 3 routing and advanced Layer 2 features.

Interface Constraints

The unit delivers 20 Gigabit Ethernet ports in total. Eighteen downlink ports are fixed 10/100/1000Base-T copper RJ45 connections. Two uplink ports are combo interfaces accepting either RJ45 copper or SFP fibre modules. Throughput runs at full line-rate for both Layer 2 and Layer 3 forwarding. The fanless convection cooling eliminates moving parts but limits deployment to convection-friendly enclosures.

Upgrade Path

This switch replaces unmanaged or Layer 2 only switches where deterministic recovery and industrial protocol support are now required. It adds native EtherNet/IP, Modbus and PROFINET integration alongside MRP and REP ring resiliency for sub-second failover.
