The Dell PowerEdge R730 arrives as a complete 2U rackmount system populated with two 10-core Xeon E5-2650v3 CPUs running at 2.3GHz and 64GB of DDR4 memory. It targets IT teams that need a dense, general-purpose platform for virtualisation, database or application workloads without assembling components themselves. The chassis includes redundant 750W hot-swap power supplies and a PERC H330 RAID controller managing two factory-installed 1TB 7.2K SATA drives in the front bays.

Verify rack depth, power feeds and memory ceiling

Before ordering, confirm that your rack can accommodate the 26.8-inch depth and that you have two suitable PDU circuits for the redundant supplies. The installed 64GB already reaches the listed maximum capacity for this configuration, so any future memory increase would require replacing modules rather than adding to empty slots. Network connectivity defaults to a four-port 1GbE daughter card; 10GbE options exist but are not included unless specified. The single DVD-ROM occupies one media bay.

Hot-swap drive bays and dedicated PERC slot

Eight 2.5-inch hot-plug bays allow drive changes without downtime, and the H330 controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60 across SAS or SATA media. A dedicated PERC slot leaves all seven PCIe 3.0 slots free for additional NICs, HBAs or accelerators. Remote management runs through iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller, providing out-of-band access for firmware updates and hardware monitoring from any browser. The 58-pound weight means two-person handling or a lift is advisable when mounting the unit.
