2U rack server for dense storage workloads

The Dell PowerEdge R730xd is a 2U rack server built for midsize and large enterprises that need high local storage capacity. It fits workloads such as data warehouses, e-commerce platforms, virtual desktop infrastructure and database nodes. Two Xeon processors and 512GB of DDR4 memory provide the compute base for these tasks.

SATA SSD limits on 6Gb/s interface

The system uses twenty-four 800GB SATA SSDs connected through a Dell PERC H730 controller on a 6Gb/s SATA interface. That interface caps the maximum sequential throughput of each drive, so sustained read or write speeds cannot exceed the SATA 6Gb/s limit. The controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode.

24 drive bays define total raw capacity

With twenty-four 2.5-inch bays populated by 800GB SATA SSDs, the raw storage capacity is fixed at the installed drive count and size. Buyers who need more raw capacity than twenty-four drives provide cannot expand internally beyond this bay count. The server includes dual 750W power supplies, quad-port networking and iDRAC8 Enterprise management.
