The Dell PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack-mount server designed for virtualisation, database and high-performance computing workloads. It ships with a single Intel Gold 6132 processor providing 14 cores at 2.6 GHz and 19.25 MB cache. Thirty-two gigabytes of DDR4 memory in two 16 GB modules at 2666 MT/s are installed. Remote management is handled by iDRAC9 Enterprise.

800 GB SAS SSD storage and H730P controller

Two 800 GB SAS SSDs deliver fast read and write performance for operating systems and active data sets. The H730P RAID controller supports multiple RAID levels for redundancy or capacity optimisation. The chassis provides eight 2.5-inch drive bays, leaving six bays free for future expansion. Storage headroom grows linearly with each added drive.

PCIe Gen 3 slots and 10 Gb Ethernet connectivity

Up to eight PCIe Gen 3 slots accommodate additional network cards, accelerators or storage controllers. The integrated Intel X550 network daughter card provides two 10 Gb RJ45 ports and two 1 Gb RJ45 ports for flexible network topologies. Redundant 1100 W power supplies maintain uptime during a single supply failure. No optical drive is fitted.
