Purpose-built 2U rack server

The Dell EMC PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server equipped with one Intel Gold 6148 processor running at 2.4 GHz with 20 cores and 27.5 MB cache. It ships with 64 GB of DDR4 memory in four 16 GB modules at 2666 MT/s. Two 120 GB SATA SSDs are installed behind an H730P RAID controller. The chassis provides eight 2.5-inch drive bays and up to eight PCIe Gen 3 slots for expansion.

Suited for virtualisation hosts not multi-node

This configuration suits teams running virtualisation workloads that benefit from high core count and hardware RAID. The single-socket design limits maximum memory capacity and CPU redundancy, so buyers who need dual-processor performance or larger memory footprints should look at a different chassis. The included iDRAC9 Enterprise enables remote management without extra licensing.

Fits standard racks with redundant power

The server occupies 2U of rack space and includes rails, bezel and power cords for immediate installation. Dual 1100 W redundant power supplies protect against single-point failures. Onboard networking delivers two 10 Gb RJ45 ports and two 1 Gb RJ45 ports via the Intel X550 controller. Eight PCIe Gen 3 slots remain available for additional NICs, HBAs or accelerators.
