The Dell PowerEdge R740xd chassis holds up to twelve 3.5-inch drive bays and ships with two Xeon Gold 6148 processors running at 2.4 GHz, each providing ten cores and 27.5 MB cache. Thirty-two gigabytes of DDR4 ECC registered memory are installed across two 16 GB modules. The system is designed for organisations that need high local capacity in a 2U form factor.

PERC H730P RAID controller and 10 GbE adapter

A Dell PERC H730P RAID controller manages the SATA drive array, while an onboard 562T dual-port 10 GbE adapter handles network traffic. The integrated iDRAC9 Enterprise licence enables remote monitoring, firmware updates and power control without an operating system. No drives are included, so the storage layout is defined entirely by the disks you add.

12-bay limit and DDR4 memory ceiling

The chassis accepts a maximum of twelve 3.5-inch SATA drives, constraining raw capacity to the number of bays. Memory can scale to 3 TB, but only with DDR4 modules; other generations are not supported. The integrated graphics provide basic console output only, and the two 1100 W power supplies set the power envelope for any further expansion.
