The Dell PowerEdge T440 is a 5U tower server built for virtualisation, database hosting and software-defined storage. It ships with two Intel Xeon Gold 5120 processors running at 2.2 GHz with a 3.2 GHz turbo frequency and 14 cores each. Sixty-four gigabytes of DDR4-2400 ECC registered memory are installed across four slots. The system includes a PERC H730P 2 GB storage controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60.

Installation Notes and Common Issues

The unit arrives without hard drives; you must supply up to sixteen 2.5-inch SAS, SATA or SSD drives and install them into the hot-swap bays using the four included trays. Redundant 750 W platinum power supplies are hot-swappable, simplifying maintenance. The front bezel and rack-mount rails are not included, so order a rack conversion kit separately if you plan to mount the chassis in a standard cabinet. Memory expansion uses the twelve remaining DDR4 slots.

Maximum Memory Capacity Is 1 TB

The platform supports up to 1 TB of DDR4 ECC registered memory across sixteen slots. This ceiling determines whether the server can hold the working set for your virtual machines or in-memory databases. If your workload requires more than 1 TB, this chassis cannot accommodate it.
