Dual Xeon Gold 5218 5U Server

The Dell PowerEdge T440 is a 5U tower server that ships with two Intel Xeon Gold 5218 processors running at 2.3 GHz with a 3.9 GHz turbo. Sixteen cores per processor deliver 32 total threads for virtualization, database hosting or file storage workloads. The chassis provides sixteen 2.5-inch hot-swap bays and supports an optional rack conversion kit. iDRAC 9 Express handles remote management out of the box.

Memory and storage compatibility

The system arrives with 256 GB of DDR4-2400 ECC registered memory across eight 32 GB modules leaving eight DIMM slots free for expansion up to 1 TB. Four 1.92 TB SATA solid-state drives are installed behind the PERC HBA330 controller which supports both SAS and SATA devices. Verify that any additional drives are 2.5-inch SATA or SAS models and that replacement memory matches the DDR4 ECC registered specification.

Included controller and power

The HBA330 provides 12 Gb/s SAS and SATA connectivity without RAID functionality so plan for software RAID or a separate PERC card if hardware RAID is required. Dual 750 W platinum power supplies operate in redundant hot-swap mode. Integrated dual-port gigabit Ethernet handles network traffic. The front bezel and ready rails are not included so budget for those if rack mounting is intended.
