2 GB FBWC DDR3 Cache Module

The 2 GB flash-backed write cache module uses DDR3 SDRAM in a 72-bit wide MiniDIMM form factor. It is designed for HP Smart Array controllers P420, P421, P430, P431, 822 and 830. The unit ships without the controller board or capacitor module. Administrators add this cache to enable accelerated write performance on supported RAID arrays.

MiniDIMM Build and Controller Integration

The MiniDIMM package plugs directly into the compatible Smart Array controller slot. Because the controller board and capacitor module are not included, the cache must be paired with an existing or separately sourced controller assembly. The flash-backed design preserves cached data during power loss without relying on a battery backup unit. Installation follows the controller's service documentation for the listed part numbers.

DDR3 FBWC Capacity and Compatibility Limits

The 2 GB capacity and DDR3 interface define the maximum cache size this module provides for the supported controllers. It cannot be used with Smart Array models outside the P420, P421, P430, P431, 822 and 830 range. Systems requiring larger cache pools or newer memory technologies will need a different controller generation that supports those specifications.
