Compact 7.9-Inch Touch Display for Embedded Projects

This 7.9-inch IPS touchscreen delivers a 400×1280 resolution in a slim profile suited to vertical dashboards and narrow enclosures. The panel uses toughened glass for scratch resistance and supports five-point capacitive touch on Windows and Raspberry Pi OS. Single-point touch works on Ubuntu, Kali, WIN10 IoT and Jetson Nano. No drivers are required for the listed platforms.

Upgrade from Smaller or Non-Touch Screens

Makers replacing a basic HDMI monitor or a smaller resistive panel gain multi-touch input and a taller aspect ratio without adding driver complexity. The jump is worth it when the project needs a vertical layout for menus, status readouts or kiosk interfaces that benefit from direct finger control. Projects staying on single-touch Linux distributions still function but lose multi-finger gestures.

Limits of the HDMI and USB Interface

The display relies on a standard HDMI video link and a USB connection for touch data, so cable length and port power budget constrain placement. Long HDMI runs may need active cables not covered by the board itself. USB touch enumeration depends on the host operating system; unsupported kernels will fall back to single-point mode. The toughened glass adds weight that thin 3D-printed mounts may not handle.
