When powered from the motherboard USB header the hub shares a 500 mA budget across all seven ports and can keep devices active during standby. Switching to SATA power raises the total budget to 1000 mA split into two 500 mA groups but removes standby power. Builders who need more current than 1000 mA total cannot use this hub.

Overcurrent Monitoring and Thermal Fuse

The hub monitors current on every port and shuts down automatically if an overcurrent event occurs, reporting the error to the operating system.
