2.5G PCIe Network Card for desktop PCs

The Wavlink WL-NWP002 adds a single 2.5Gbps RJ45 port through any PCI Express x1, x4, x8 or x16 slot. It targets owners of existing desktop systems who want faster wired throughput without replacing their motherboard. Both a standard bracket and a low-profile bracket are supplied for different case heights.

Thermals noise and power draw

A passive metal heatsink covers the Realtek RTL8125B controller to dissipate heat without a fan, so the card runs silently. Power is drawn entirely from the PCIe slot; no external connectors are required. The adapter negotiates 2500, 1000 or 100Mbps links automatically and supports Wake-on-LAN from S1, S3 and S5 states.

Upgrade from gigabit onboard Ethernet

The card replaces a typical 1Gbps onboard port when the network infrastructure already uses Cat5e or better cabling and a 2.5G switch or router is present. The jump is worthwhile for large file transfers, local streaming or gaming traffic that saturates gigabit bandwidth. It will not increase speed if the rest of the path remains at 1Gbps.
