Compact NVMe Storage for Raspberry Pi 5

The AAAwave NVMe Base Duo is a PCIe Gen 2 extension board designed for the Raspberry Pi 5. It accepts one or two M-key NVMe SSDs in 2230 to 2280 form factors. The package includes two 2TB drives, making it suited for builders who need high-capacity, redundant storage for file servers, media centres or home automation hubs. It is not intended for users who require boot-only capacity or single-drive simplicity.

Simple Under-Board Mounting with Included Hardware

Installation uses the supplied flat flex cable to connect the HAT to the Pi 5 PCIe connector. The board mounts beneath the Pi using 12mm standoffs and 8 short bolts, or on top with 20mm bolts for pass-through HAT stacking. Four rubber feet provide stability on a desk. SSDs secure with M2 bolts and 5mm standoffs. Builders who lack a Pi 5 or need a standard PCIe slot adapter cannot use this kit.

Sustained Random IOPS Performance for Server Loads

The board delivers consistent throughput for random high IOPS workloads such as database serving, reverse proxy caching or automated backups. Dual drives allow mirroring or striping without saturating the Gen 2 link during extended write cycles. Thermal throttling is minimal under passive cooling thanks to the open layout. Users needing sustained sequential throughput beyond the Pi 5 lane width will see a ceiling.
