The Dell PowerEdge R650xs is a 1U rack server built for dense compute environments. It ships with two Intel Xeon Gold 5317 processors running at 3.0 GHz with 12 cores each. The system includes 512 GB of DDR4 2933 MHz registered ECC memory across 16 DIMM slots. A PERC H745 RAID controller with 4 GB NV cache manages storage.

This server targets virtualisation, cloud infrastructure and high-performance computing clusters that need maximum CPU density in 1U. Buyers who need GPU acceleration for AI or machine learning should look elsewhere because the chassis does not support GPU cards. Organisations requiring more than 1 TB of memory or more than two processors must choose a different platform.

Eight 2.5-inch drive bays with H745 RAID

The front panel provides eight 2.5-inch SAS/SATA trays connected to the PERC H745 controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. This bay count and controller combination determines how many drives can be installed and which redundancy levels are available. Network connectivity comes from a Broadcom 57412 dual-port 10 GbE SFP+ OCP 3.0 card.
