Ready-to-deploy dual-socket server

The Dell PowerEdge R730 arrives with two Intel Xeon E5-2670 v3 processors running at 2.3GHz, each providing 12 cores and 30MB cache. A full 768GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory is installed across all available slots. The 8-bay 3.5-inch chassis uses a PERC H730 SAS controller for SATA drives, though no drives are included. Integrated graphics and an iDRAC8 Enterprise licence handle remote management out of the box.

Thermals and power in normal use

Dual 495W power supplies share the load for redundancy while the system runs typical workloads. The 2U rack form factor directs front-to-rear airflow through the 8-drive bay area and over the CPU heatsinks. Fan speeds adjust automatically through iDRAC policies, keeping acoustic output at levels expected for a data-centre rack mount server. Power draw scales with processor utilisation and the number of drives installed.

What the bundled items change

The PERC H730 controller enables hardware RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 without consuming CPU cycles. iDRAC8 Enterprise adds a dedicated management port, virtual console, virtual media and lifecycle automation scripts. The network card provides two 10GbE and two 1GbE ports on a single mezzanine adapter. Rail kits are available separately, so cabinet mounting must be planned before the server arrives.
