The Dell PowerEdge R730XD packs twenty-four 2.5-inch hot-plug bays into a 2U rack chassis, making it a fit for databases, backup targets or virtualisation hosts that need capacity density over raw compute threads. A single eight-core Xeon E5-2630 v3 at 2.4 GHz and 64 GB of DDR4 provide a baseline platform for memory-bound workloads.

Sustained Load Behaviour

Three 900 GB 10K SAS drives feed the H730 RAID controller with 1 GB cache, supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 for redundancy or throughput. Dual 750 W redundant power supplies and the C610 chipset keep the array and memory subsystem stable during extended rebuilds or sequential write streams.

Installation Realities

The server weighs 60 lbs and measures 26.8 by 17.44 by 3.4 inches, so two-person racking or a lift is standard practice. Drive trays ship only with populated bays, meaning empty slots need separate caddies. The iDRAC8 Express remote-management module is active by default; Enterprise features and vFlash media require a licence upgrade.
