Balanced 1U rack server for dual Xeon E5 v3

The HP ProLiant DL160 Gen9 fits a 1U rack space and ships with two Xeon E5-2650 v3 processors, each offering ten cores at 2.3 GHz. Thirty-two gigabytes of DDR4 ECC registered memory populate the 16 DIMM slots. Two 1 TB 7.2K SATA drives connect to the B140i software RAID controller, and a redundant 550 W hot-swap power supply is included.

Suits small databases

This configuration works for teams that run moderate virtualisation clusters, file services or entry-level databases on SATA storage with RAID 0, 1 or 5. It is not for buyers who need hardware RAID with battery-backed cache, SAS drive support or more than 32 GB of memory out of the box. Workloads requiring discrete GPU compute or persistent memory modules should look elsewhere.

B140i software RAID limited to SATA drives

The onboard B140i controller provides RAID 0, 1 and 5 exclusively for SATA devices. No SAS or other drive interfaces are supported by this controller, so storage expansion must use SATA drives. The installed 1 TB drives occupy two of the eight SFF bays, leaving six bays available for additional SATA capacity.
