The HP ProLiant DL160 Gen9 fits a single Intel Xeon E5-2630 v3 eight-core processor running at 2.4 GHz with 4 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory installed across 16 DIMM slots. The 1U chassis provides eight 2.5-inch SFF drive bays served by a Smart HBA H240 controller supporting SAS at 12 Gb/s and SATA at 6 Gb/s with RAID 0, 1 and 5. A redundant hot-swap 550 W power supply and Matrox G200 graphics with 16 MB video memory complete the base configuration.

Sustained load behaviour

The server ships with one processor but the Intel C610 chipset supports a second Xeon E5 v3 CPU to reach 36 total cores for prolonged multi-threaded tasks. Memory can scale to 1 TB using DDR4 modules up to 2400 MT/s, while the H240 controller maintains consistent throughput across all eight bays under continuous SAS or SATA traffic. Redundant power and hot-swap drive trays allow component replacement without interrupting long-running jobs.

Eight-bay 2.5-inch limit decides storage density

Only eight SFF bays are available in the 1U form factor, so the maximum raw capacity is bound by the largest 2.5-inch drives you can source. Buyers who need more than eight drives or who require 3.5-inch LFF bays must choose a different chassis. The H240 controller does not support RAID 6 or 10, so arrays needing dual-parity or striped mirrors are not possible with this controller.
