The HPE BL460c Gen10 blade server fits into a c-Class enclosure and delivers two Xeon Platinum 5217 processors running at 3.0 GHz with eight cores each. Thirty-two gigabytes of DDR4 ECC registered memory are installed, expandable to 128 GB across the available slots. Two 300 GB 10K SAS drives connect through the Smart Array P204i-b SR controller, and integrated Lights-Out Advanced provides remote management.

Upgrade from Single-Processor Blades

Replacing a single-CPU blade with this dual-socket configuration doubles the core count and raises the maximum memory ceiling to 128 GB. The jump is worth it when workloads such as virtualisation hosts or database nodes need more concurrent threads and larger memory footprints than a single processor can supply. Existing SAS storage and the same enclosure infrastructure are reused without redesign.

Installation in a c-Class Enclosure

The half-height blade slides into a vacant bay and locks with the integrated lever; no tools are required. Firmware and BIOS are pre-updated to the latest stable release, so the system posts immediately on power-up. The most common issue is a mismatched enclosure firmware version that prevents the blade from joining the management domain, resolved by updating the Onboard Administrator first.
