16GB DDR4 ECC RDIMM for Supermicro servers

This 16GB DDR4 2400 CL17 ECC registered DIMM is built for Supermicro X10 and X11 server and workstation boards. It targets administrators upgrading or repairing X10DRU-i+, X10DRW-i, X10DRW-iT, X11SDD-18C-F or X11SDD-8C-F systems. It is not for standard desktop computers or any platform that requires unbuffered memory.

Installation notes and common issues

The module uses a standard 288-pin DDR4 form factor and operates at 1.2V. Installation follows normal server DIMM procedure: power down, open the chassis, align the key notch, and press until the latches click. The most frequent error is mixing this registered ECC module with unbuffered DIMMs, which prevents the system from posting. Verify that every slot uses registered ECC before powering on.

Capacity headroom and limits

A single 16GB stick adds substantial memory for virtualization, databases, or large file caches on the listed Supermicro boards. Headroom scales with the number of populated slots up to the motherboard maximum. Workloads that exceed the total installed capacity will swap to storage, reducing responsiveness. This module alone does not address CPU, storage or network bottlenecks.
