Blade server for dense compute

The Dell PowerEdge M640 is a half-height blade server fitted with two Intel Xeon Platinum 8160 processors. Each CPU runs at 2.1 GHz with a 3.7 GHz turbo frequency and provides 24 cores, giving 56 cores in total. The unit ships with 128 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory across eight 16 GB modules. It targets virtualization, private cloud and high-performance computing workloads that benefit from high core density in a compact chassis slot.

Integrated storage controller and 10 Gb networking

A Dell PERC S140 controller manages the two installed 960 GB SATA SSDs and supports RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10 across SATA and SAS interfaces. The blade includes a Broadcom 57810S-K dual-port 10 Gb network daughter card for high-speed connectivity. iDRAC9 Enterprise provides comprehensive remote management. Front bezel and ready rails are not included and no operating system is pre-installed.

Verify chassis compatibility

This blade fits only Dell PowerEdge MX and M1000e enclosures, so confirm you have an available half-height slot and matching power supplies. The system has 16 memory slots and supports up to 1.5 TB of DDR4, leaving eight free slots for future upgrades. Ensure your workload does not require a dedicated GPU, as only the Matrox G200 with 8 MB video memory is present.
