The Dell PowerEdge R640 is a dual-socket 1U rack server built for scale-out workloads. Two Intel Xeon Gold 6130 processors deliver 16 cores each at 2.1 GHz with 3.7 GHz turbo. 768 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory fills all 24 slots. The PERC H730P controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60 and pass-through.

Verify rack depth and network cabling

Confirm the rack can accommodate the server depth and that 1U spacing is available. The system uses two redundant 750 W platinum power supplies with hot-swap capability. Network connectivity provides two 1 GbE ports and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports via the X520/I350 daughter card. Eight 2.5-inch SAS/SATA drive trays are included without drives.

Hot-swap power and tool-less rails

Redundant 750 W power supplies are hot-swappable for continuous uptime. Ready Rails enable tool-less mounting in standard four-post racks. The front bezel protects drive trays and airflow. iDRAC 9 Enterprise provides dedicated remote management over a separate network interface. Which memory configuration should I choose if I want room to grow?

All 24 DIMM slots are already populated with 32GB modules. To expand toward the 3TB maximum you would need to replace existing modules with higher-capacity DDR4 RDIMMs or LRDIMMs.
