Dual 14-core Xeon server for virtualisation

The PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rack server fitted with two Intel Xeon E5-2660 v4 processors, each running at 2.0 GHz with 14 cores and a 3.2 GHz turbo frequency. It ships with 256 GB of DDR4 2400 MHz registered ECC memory across eight 32 GB modules. The PERC H730 controller with 1 GB cache manages eight 2.4 TB 10K SAS drives in a 2.5-inch bay layout. A quad-port network daughter card provides two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ connections. iDRAC 8 Enterprise enables full remote management.

Verify rack space power and memory expansion needs

Confirm the cabinet can accommodate a 2U chassis and that the PDU can supply two 750 W platinum-efficiency hot-swap power supplies. The system uses LGA 2011-3 sockets and the Intel C610 chipset; both processor sockets are already populated. Memory capacity currently uses eight of 24 DDR4 slots, leaving room to scale toward the 1.5 TB maximum with additional registered ECC modules. Under continuous load the dual 14-core CPUs maintain elevated frequencies while the redundant power supplies share the draw. The PERC H730 battery-backed cache protects write performance during extended database or virtualisation runs. Eight 10K SAS spindles deliver consistent IOPS for mixed read-write patterns without the thermal throttling seen in smaller form factors. iDRAC 8 Enterprise provides real-time sensor telemetry so administrators can adjust fan curves or migrate workloads before temperatures affect stability.
