Dual-Socket Xeon Gold 6126 Server

The Dell PowerEdge R740 arrives as a 2U rack-mount system with two Intel Xeon Gold 6126 processors running at 2.6 GHz. Twelve cores per socket provide twenty-four threads for virtualisation, database or compute workloads. Three hundred eighty-four gigabytes of DDR4 ECC registered memory are installed across the available slots. The chassis supports up to eight 3.5-inch SATA drive bays and includes a PERC H730P RAID controller.

Upgrade From Single-Socket

Adding the second Gold 6126 doubles thread count and memory bandwidth compared with a single-processor R740. The jump is worthwhile when licensing costs scale per socket and the workload can saturate twenty-four cores. Maximum memory capacity reaches three terabytes, so the current 384 GB leaves headroom for future DIMM population. No drives are installed; storage must be sourced separately.

Sustained Load Behaviour With Dual 750 W Supplies

Redundant 750 watt power supplies feed both processors and the PERC H730P under continuous demand. iDRAC9 Enterprise provides remote monitoring of thermals, power draw and fan speeds during extended runs. Integrated graphics handle console output without a discrete GPU. The 10 GbE 2-port 562T adapter maintains network throughput for storage replication or cluster heartbeats. Rail kit is available on request for rack installation.
