The iStarUSA D-300 is a 3U rackmount chassis built for compact server deployments. Its aluminum front bezel and steel main body support standard ATX and microATX motherboards up to 12 x 9.6 inches. Four external 5.25-inch bays and two external 3.5-inch bays provide front-accessible storage, while one internal 3.5-inch bay and seven expansion slots handle additional drives and add-in cards. Front-panel USB 2.0 ports and a lockable bezel complete the feature set for secured environments.

Sustained Thermal Behaviour

A single 60mm fan draws air through a removable filter across the 7 full-length expansion slots. The 1.2mm SECC zinc-coated steel chassis conducts heat away from installed components during continuous operation. Temperature and fan-speed indicators on the front panel require the optional TC-ISF08 sensor board to function, so monitoring under load depends on that addition. The aluminum front bezel aids dissipation but airflow capacity remains defined by the single fan.

Upgrade Context and Limits

This chassis replaces older 3U or 4U enclosures that lack front USB access, a lockable bezel, or a removable air filter. It suits builders moving to a standardized 19-inch rack with ATX or microATX boards who need up to seven full-length cards. It does not suit buyers who want redundant hot-swap drive bays, dual power supplies, or integrated temperature monitoring without purchasing the separate sensor board.
