What is the correct way to seat the module, and what step do people often miss?

Align the notch on the module's gold edge with the key in the slot, insert at a slight angle, then press down firmly until both side clips click into place. The step many miss is pushing hard enough to engage both clips fully.

Will the ECC feature require any special maintenance or replacement later?

No ongoing maintenance is needed. The module has no heat spreader and runs at 1.2V. If a future platform requires non-ECC memory, the module would need to be replaced, but the memory itself does not degrade differently from standard DDR4.
