Quad-Port Gigabit NIC for servers

The C&N Quad-Port Gigabit NIC uses an Intel I350AM4 controller to deliver four RJ45 ports over a PCIe 2.1 x4 host interface. It is built for servers and workstations that need multiple 1000BASE-T links in a low-profile bracket. The card fits x4, x8 or x16 slots and supports Windows, Linux, FreeBSD and VMware ESXi.

PCIe 2.1 x4 host interface

The single specification that decides fit is the PCIe 2.1 x4 electrical interface, which also accepts x8 and x16 physical slots. A system limited to x1 or PCIe 1.x bandwidth cannot supply the throughput required for four simultaneous gigabit ports, so this card is not for platforms without a compliant x4 or wider slot.

Sustained multi-port throughput

Under continuous load the Intel I350AM4 controller maintains line-rate traffic across all four ports using features such as SR-IOV, DPDK, Jumbo Frames and Smart Offload. Energy Efficient Ethernet reduces power during idle periods, while IEEE 1588 and 802.1AS timing keep latency predictable for virtualised or storage workloads.
