The Dell PowerEdge R430 fits a single Intel Xeon E5-2603 v3 six-core processor at 1.6 GHz with 8 GB of DDR4 memory in a 1U chassis. It ships with three 1 TB 7.2 K SATA drives on a PERC H330 RAID controller that supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60. The platform targets workloads that need redundant power and remote management in a shallow rack footprint.

Hot-plug bays simplify drive swaps

Eight 2.5-inch hot-plug bays accept SAS or SATA drives and the included trays let you add or replace disks without tools. The single 550 W redundant supply slides out from the rear, so a failed unit can be exchanged while the server stays online. Installing a second processor requires the matching heatsink and riser kit, which are not included, and memory must be populated in matched sets per CPU to reach full bandwidth.

Steady throughput with redundant power

Under sustained load the dual-processor capable C610 chipset and DDR4 memory running up to 2400 MT/s keep data moving to the H330 controller without thermal throttling in typical rack airflow. The iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller provides out-of-band monitoring and firmware updates even when the OS is unresponsive. Four 1 GbE ports and two PCIe 3.0 slots handle persistent network and accelerator traffic without saturating the backplane.
