The Dell PowerEdge R440 is a 1U rack server built for dense data-centre deployment. Dual Xeon Gold 5118 processors provide twenty-four cores at 2.3 GHz with 3.2 GHz turbo for demanding virtualisation, database and cloud tasks. One hundred twenty-eight gigabytes of DDR4-2400 ECC registered memory supports reliable multi-tenant operation. Twelve terabytes on four enterprise drives

Four 4 TB 7.2 K SATA 3.5-inch hard drives deliver sixteen terabytes of raw capacity for bulk storage workloads. The PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache enables RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through for flexible redundancy. Mechanical spindle speed limits random IOPS, so latency-sensitive databases may saturate the array before capacity is exhausted. Additional drive bays are not present in this 4-bay configuration.

Dual 550 W platinum supplies share load

Two 550 watt platinum-efficiency power supplies provide redundant power for the dual-processor, memory and storage complement. Power draw scales with CPU turbo utilisation and drive activity; the platinum rating reduces waste heat at typical load. Fan speed ramps with inlet temperature to keep components within spec in standard rack airflow. Acoustic output is characteristic of a 1U server under sustained compute load.
