The Dell PowerEdge R630 packs two 18-core Xeon E5-2699 v3 processors running at 2.3 GHz into a 1U rack frame. With 768 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory installed and a maximum capacity of 1.5 TB, it targets virtualisation hosts, database nodes and high-performance computing clusters that demand heavy thread counts and large memory footprints.

Thermals and power in a 1U chassis

Dual 495 W power supplies feed the 24-core CPU pair and the PERC H730 SAS controller while the 10-bay 2.5-inch front plane draws additional current. The compact 36 x 24 x 10 inch form factor relies on high-speed system fans to move air across the CPU heatsinks and memory risers, so inlet temperature and rack airflow must meet Dell specifications to avoid throttling.

Build integration and expansion headroom

The chassis provides ten 2.5-inch drive bays served by the H730 controller with SATA and SAS support, leaving storage capacity entirely to the builder. Network connectivity includes two 10 GbE and two 1 GbE ports via Intel I350 and X540 adapters. iDRAC8 Enterprise enables remote power cycling, console redirection and firmware updates without physical access. A rail kit is available separately for rack mounting.
