Dual-socket Xeon server for virtualisation workloads

The PowerEdge R730 fits a 2U rack slot and ships with two E5-2609v3 six-core processors running at 1.9GHz. Thirty-two gigabytes of DDR4 memory are installed across the 24 DIMM slots, leaving room for expansion up to the platform maximum of 1536GB. The system targets organisations that need dense compute for virtual machines or database instances without occupying a full 4U bay.

Hot-plug drive bays and redundant power

Eight 2.5-inch bays accept SAS or SATA drives and the tray design lets you swap disks without shutting down. Two 750W power supplies share the load so a single unit failure does not interrupt service. The Perc H330 controller manages RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60 across the installed 900GB 10K SAS pair and any additional drives you add.

PCIe 3.0 slots and 1GbE networking set the I/O

Seven PCIe 3.0 lanes plus a dedicated PERC slot provide expansion for extra network cards, storage controllers or accelerators. The standard daughter card delivers four 1GbE ports; optional 10GbE modules are required for faster fabric. Memory speed is capped by the processor at 2400MT/s, so newer DDR4 modules will downclock to that rate.
