Dual Xeon 16-core server for virtualisation

The PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rack server equipped with two Intel Xeon E5-2683 v4 processors running at 2.1 GHz with 16 cores each. It ships with 128 GB of DDR4 2400 MHz registered ECC memory across 24 slots, supporting up to 1.5 TB total. This configuration targets midsize and large enterprises running data warehouses, VDI, databases or HPC data nodes.

Hot-swap bays, redundant power and remote management

Eight 2.5-inch drive bays support SATA and SAS devices through a PERC H730 controller with 1 GB cache and battery backup, offering RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60 and pass-through modes. Two 800 GB SATA SSDs are installed. Networking uses an Intel X520/I350 daughter card providing two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports. Dual 750 W platinum power supplies and iDRAC8 Enterprise enable hot-swap maintenance and out-of-band control. Rails and bezel are included.

Check rack depth, CPU cooler clearance

Verify that your rack can accommodate a 2U chassis with sliding rails and that airflow meets the dual 16-core thermal load. The LGA 2011-3 sockets are fully populated, so no further CPU upgrades are possible. Memory expansion requires registered ECC DDR4 modules compatible with the 24 slots and 1.5 TB limit. Ensure your switch or uplink supports SFP+ transceivers for the 10 Gb links.
