PowerEdge R730 for virtualisation workloads

The Dell PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rack server built around a single Intel Xeon E5-2630 v3 eight-core processor running at 2.4 GHz with 16 GB of DDR4 memory. It targets IT teams deploying virtualisation hosts, database nodes or application servers that need dense compute in a standard rack footprint. The chassis supports a second processor for future scaling.

Storage capacity and RAID flexibility

Two 300 GB 15K SAS drives provide fast primary storage managed by the H730 controller with 1 GB cache, supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Eight 3.5-inch hot-plug bays allow expansion up to 64 TB total raw capacity using SAS or SATA drives. The current 16 GB memory limit matches the installed DIMMs; 24 slots are available for upgrades to 1536 GB when a second CPU is added.

Redundant power and remote management

Dual 750 W hot-swap power supplies deliver redundancy without shutting down the server. The iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller provides out-of-band management, remote console and firmware updates over a dedicated network port. Four onboard 1 GbE ports handle production traffic, while seven PCIe 3.0 slots plus a dedicated PERC slot leave room for additional network or storage cards.
