Dual-socket Xeon server for data-intensive workloads

The PowerEdge R730xd is a 2U rack server built around two Intel Xeon E5-2660 v3 processors, each delivering 10 cores at 2.6 GHz with a 3.3 GHz turbo frequency. It targets midsize and large enterprises running databases, virtual desktop infrastructure, data-warehouse queries or high-performance computing tasks that benefit from high core counts and large memory capacity.

24-bay 2.5-inch chassis

The front panel accepts up to 24 hot-swap 2.5-inch SATA or SAS drives, while the PERC H730 1 GB controller manages RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through. An Intel X520/I350 daughter card adds two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports, and iDRAC 8 Enterprise provides out-of-band management. Dual 750 W platinum power supplies and sliding rails are included.

Sustained throughput from 512 GB DDR4 and dual SSDs

The system ships with 512 GB of DDR4-2133 registered ECC memory across 16 DIMM slots, leaving eight slots open for expansion to 1.5 TB. Two 800 GB SATA SSDs handle boot and caching duties, freeing the remaining bays for capacity drives. The C610 chipset and dual-socket topology keep memory bandwidth and PCIe lanes balanced during prolonged database scans or VDI storms.
