The Dell PowerEdge R730xd packs two 18-core Xeon processors at 2.3 GHz with 3.6 GHz turbo into a 2U rack chassis. It ships with 128 GB of DDR4 ECC memory across eight 16 GB modules and twenty-four 1.2 TB 10K SAS drives behind a PERC H730 controller. Quad-port networking combines two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ links. iDRAC 8 Enterprise and dual 750 W platinum supplies complete the package for database, VDI or HPC data-node roles.

Rail mounting and drive population

Ready Rails let the 2U unit slide into standard square-hole or threaded racks without tools. The twenty-four 2.5-inch bays are front-accessible and hot-swap, so drives can be replaced while the system runs. The PERC H730’s battery-backed cache protects writes during power loss, but the controller must be configured before the array becomes visible to the OS. Memory installs in registered DIMM sets; mixing unbuffered modules will prevent POST.
