2U rack server with 12 hot-plug bays

This 2U Dell PowerEdge R730XD provides twelve 3.5-inch hot-plug drive bays for dense storage workloads. A single Intel Xeon E5-2650 v3 ten-core processor at 2.3 GHz delivers 20 threads with hyper-threading. Sixteen gigabytes of DDR4 memory occupy one of twenty-four DIMM slots. The PERC H330 RAID controller manages the installed drives.

SAS 6 Gbps drives and PCIe 3.0 slots

Three 300 GB 15K SAS drives operate at 6 Gbps through the H330 controller, which supports RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60. The chassis accepts up to twelve SAS or SATA drives for a raw capacity ceiling of 52 TB. Six PCIe 3.0 expansion slots plus a dedicated RAID slot remain available for additional controllers or network cards. The 4-port 1 GbE daughter card handles baseline connectivity.

Single CPU limits memory to 16 GB

With only one processor installed, the system can address a maximum of 16 GB across twelve slots assigned to that socket; the remaining twelve slots stay inactive until a second CPU is added. Buyers who need more than 16 GB of RAM must procure a second compatible Xeon E5-2650 v3 processor. The 750 W redundant power supplies and iDRAC8 remote management are already present.
