Dual Silver 4210R 10-core server

The Dell EMC PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack system equipped with two Intel Silver 4210R processors, each running at 2.4 GHz with ten cores and 13.75 MB cache. It ships with 256 GB of DDR4 memory across sixteen 16 GB modules at 2666 MT/s. The H730P RAID controller manages eight 300 GB 10K SAS drives in 2.5 inch bays. This configuration targets virtualisation hosts, database nodes and compute clusters that need dense processing and fast local storage.

Redundant 1100 W cooling and power

Dual 1100 W redundant power supplies share the load and keep the system running if one unit fails. The 2U chassis uses high-speed fans that ramp with CPU and drive temperature, so airflow scales with the ten-core processors and eight spinning drives. iDRAC9 Enterprise provides remote thermal monitoring and power capping without requiring host OS access. Acoustic output rises under sustained load but remains within typical data-centre limits for a 2U platform.

Eight PCIe Gen 3 slots and quad-port networking

Up to eight PCIe Gen 3 expansion slots accept additional NICs, HBAs or accelerators for workload growth. The integrated Intel X550 network daughter card delivers two 10 Gb RJ45 ports and two 1 Gb RJ45 ports for flexible LAN segmentation. Rails and a front bezel are included for standard rack mounting. No optical drive is present, so OS installation relies on USB or network boot. Build quality follows Dell EMC server standards with tool-less drive carriers and cable-managed internals.
