The Dell PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server built for dense virtualisation and database tasks. It ships with two Intel Gold 6132 processors, each delivering 14 cores at 2.6GHz with 19.25M cache. The system includes 32GB of DDR4 memory arranged as two 16GB PC4-2666 modules. Six 800GB SAS SSDs are pre-installed behind an H730P RAID controller.

Sustained Compute and Storage Throughput

Under continuous load the dual 14-core CPUs maintain 2.6GHz across all cores, providing predictable throughput for multi-tenant environments. The H730P controller manages the six 800GB SAS SSDs with hardware RAID, sustaining high IOPS for mixed read-write patterns. Up to eight PCIe Gen 3 slots remain available for additional network or accelerator cards. The Intel X550 NDC supplies two 10Gb RJ45 and two 1Gb RJ45 ports for balanced network segmentation.

Redundant Power and Remote Management

Dual 1100W redundant power supplies share the load, keeping the chassis running if one unit fails. The iDRAC9 Enterprise module provides out-of-band monitoring, virtual console and firmware updates over a dedicated network interface. Front-accessible 2.5-inch drive bays allow hot-swap replacement without shutting down the server. The package includes bezel, rails and power cords for immediate rack installation.
