The Dell EMC PowerEdge R740 packs two Intel Silver 4210R processors, each with 10 cores at 2.4 GHz, into a 2U rack chassis. This configuration targets virtualisation hosts, database nodes and mid-range enterprise workloads that need balanced core count and memory bandwidth.

256 GB DDR4 and 2.4 TB SAS headroom

Sixteen 16 GB DDR4 modules deliver 256 GB of system memory, leaving room for dense VM consolidation or in-memory databases. Two 1.2 TB 10K SAS drives on the H730P controller provide fast redundant storage, while six empty 2.5-inch bays allow capacity to grow without adding enclosures.

PCIe Gen 3 and 10 GbE I/O limits

Up to eight PCIe Gen 3 slots support GPU accelerators, additional NICs or storage HBAs, but the bus tops out at Gen 3 speeds. The integrated Intel X550 adapter supplies two 10 GbE RJ45 ports and two 1 GbE ports, capping native network throughput at 10 Gbps per port without add-in cards.
