Dual Gold 6126 12-core compute

The Dell PowerEdge R740 ships with two Intel Gold 6126 processors running at 2.6 GHz, each providing 12 cores and 19.25 MB cache. The 2U rack chassis targets virtualisation clusters, database nodes and high-density compute workloads that need balanced core count and memory bandwidth. Remote management is handled by iDRAC9 Enterprise for lights-out administration.

256 GB DDR4 and six 960 GB SAS SSDs

Memory is populated with 16 modules of 16 GB PC4-2666 DDR4, filling every slot and leaving no room for expansion without removing DIMMs. Storage uses six 960 GB SAS SSDs on the H730P RAID controller, occupying six of the eight 2.5-inch drive bays and delivering fast read performance for mixed workloads.

Eight PCIe Gen 3 slots and dual 10 GbE

The system offers up to eight PCIe Gen 3 slots for GPU, networking or storage add-in cards, limiting newer Gen 4 devices to Gen 3 speeds. Onboard networking provides two 10 Gb RJ45 ports and two 1 Gb RJ45 ports through the Intel X550 controller, capping external throughput at 10 Gbps per port. Power is supplied by redundant 1100 W units.
